Profile
Following my formal education at Brunel & Brighton University, I worked with Zaha Hadid Architects on the Phaeno Science Centre competition, before returning to Brighton to complete my Diploma in Architecture, graduating with Distinction in 2001. I worked in the UK, rising to Director level, and in 2003 returned to Libya to start my own practice, the Allabina Architectural and Engineering Consultancy.
Be¬tween 2006 and 2011, Allabina developed a diverse range of projects, working with architects such as Zaha Hadid Architects, OMA, Foster & Part¬ners, Atkins and many others. I chaired and was an adviser to different strategic projects including the committee over¬seeing the design of the main air¬ports (Tripoli, Benghazi, Sabha, Labraq).
Since my election to the RIBA in 2009, I have pushed myself to create better design and construction services in Libya, founding several key design and construction consultancies. My main achievements are in starting El Turki Construction and Real Estate Investment, Libya Design Consultancy, and culminating in opening the Adn School of Design in 2016 (www.adnschool.ly).

Skills
I have diverse skills, including drawing, sketches, collages both by hand and digitally, model making and photography.
My main focus is in early design development: the concept. I have developed a method called the “design birth process”, describing a journey of design. It begins with literature extracts from a selected text, and continues through a course of nine actions. Upon the completion of each action, a design idea is described in both text and drawings as it evolves in the mind, each action relating primarily to its precedents and increasing in detail and complexity as it is developed. It is a rigorous process that accumulates steadily, and is an approach that can be applied to art and architecture. This has been developed in the Adn School of Design.
